Reviews for, East London Builders, Blackthorne Building Contractors taken from www.problemsolved.com/blackthorne_building
“We employed Nick and his team for a refurbishment of the whole ground floor of our house. This included building work in the kitchen to knock through a utility room and back wall to open up the kitchen and allow folding glass doors. Firstly Nick’s quote was competitive and he also offered a lot of practical advice, which was very helpful for a couple not very experienced with building work. All the people Nick employs were unfailingly polite, friendly and helpful and I was more than happy for any or all of them to be in the house unsupervised. They all made a big effort to leave the house tidy at the end of the day and made every attempt to keep disruption to a minimum. Nick was always contactable to discuss progress, either at the house or on the phone, and there were no hidden costs or surprises at the end. We are very happy with the quality of the work – the house looks great – and I would have no hesitation in recommending Nick to anyone considering having building work done.” – REVIEWED BY MICHAEL MCCARTHY on Jan 22, 2008
“Blackthorne Building fitted a new bathroom whilst also accommodating structural changes to the layout of the property. The work by Nick and the sub-contractors was carried out to a high standard and any required changes due to limitations in the building were discussed in advance. There were also a number of suggestions that we were able to take on board to enhance both the look and the performance of the bathroom. We were more than happy to leave keys with Nick for access which made things a lot easier. In addition Nick was able to sort out a few ad-hoc problems, namely clearing a blocked drain that was due to be inspected and arranging for doors to be hung elsewhere in the property. I would certainly recommend Nick as the standard of work was high and the cost was more than competitive.” – REVIEWED BY JON TAGG on Jan 22, 2008
We found Nick through the problemsolved website and we are extremely happy with the service he provided. Nick completely refurbished our bathroom and both he and his team were extremely reliable, honest and professional at all times. It was refreshing to have someone straight up who does what he says he is going to do so to this end I would highly recommend Nick and the Blackthorne team. In fact he is hopefully going to install our new kitchen on the back of this! Jeff Hardie, Tufnell Park, London N19 – REVIEWED BY JEFF HARDIE on May 12, 2008
I, too, have had work done by this company, they completely refurbished my kitchen. I, of course, wanted the impossible but Nick was very patient and made suggestions which enabled me to have the work done as close to my dreams as possible. The finish is beautiful and the carpenter made me bespoke units as the measurements were odd.- REVIEWED BY FRANCOPHLE on Nov 21, 2007

Builder and Engineer wrote that House Builders need to work much harder to create a sense of community on new housing estates (according to new CABE report). This report is on a Ipsos MORI survey taken in 33 new housing development of over 600 residents.
House builders need to work much harder to create a sense of community on new housing estates, according to a new CABE report. A sense of place’ is based on an Ipsos MORI survey of over 600 residents from 33 new housing developments. It reveals that although homeowners on new housing estates like their homes almost half miss a sense of community spirit.
The report from Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE points to a quality blindspot which suggests that house builders and planners need to work much harder to create a sense of place.
While 91 per cent are satisfied with their individual home, there is widespread dissatisfaction with the wider development. Forty five per cent believe that their neighbours “go their own way, rather than doing things together and trying to help each other”. Forty per cent think there is not enough public open space and 48 per cent want more space where neighbours can get to know each other.
These new resident survey findings are consistent with the problems in terms of layout, character, and public space identified by design professionals in CABE’s first national Housing Audit, completed in February 2007.
Wayne Hemingway, designer and chair of Building for Life (the national initiative to champion high quality homes and neighbourhoods), is supporting CABE’s call for a public debate about what makes a great place to live.
He said:
“Every new development should have the elements that help to foster a sense of community and belonging, but instead people find themselves living in anonymous estates without all the elements that make life easy.”
